Wool Felt Proofed
IS 1719 proofed wool felt is manufactured
by us as General purpose Wool felt
medium or firm hard and Precision Wool Felts. Rot Proof and Moth Proof
felt is manufactured in accordance to IS 1719.
Felt as per IS 1719 : General purpose Proofed wool felt medium,
Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS) has provided Industrial Textiles Pressed
Wool Felt Specifications in detailed under IS 1719 (2000) : Industrial
Textiles - Pressed Wool Felts.
Indian specification : IS 1719 2000 has superseded Indian specification
: IS 1719 : 1988 and the IS 1719 : 1969.
Wool felt as per Indian Standard specification : IS 1719 : 2000 has two
types of pressed wool felts, namely general purpose felts and precision
felts.
Both General Purpose Wool Felt and Precision Wool Felt are classified
into eight grades on the basis of density.
Eight Different Grades are Extra hard, Hard, Extra firm, Firm, Medium
firm, Medium, Soft and Extra soft.
General Purpose Wool Felts is used for General packing, padding,
cushioning, insulation and similar other purposes.
Precision Wool Felt is used in engineering applications where closer
tolerances are required.
Proofing of Felt : To Achieve Rot and Moth proofed felt it must be
treated with proofing agents. The impregnation with proofing agent shall
be carried out in such a manner that the cross-section of the felt is
uniformly treated.
For Insect and moth resistance felt (for use under tropical condition)
The proofing agents are 2,4 Dinitro-alphanaphthol (DNAN) or
Dinitro-ortho-cresol (DNOC)
For Rot resistance felt must be proofed with Copper naphthenate or
Cuprammonium emulsion or Para-nitrophenol
Felt is made from Wool fiber which is an Organic Matter, it breaks down
and starts to decompose over time. To prevend Biodegration is by Mold
and fungus felt must be treated with above chemical to make it rot proof
felt.
For Both Insect, moth and Rot resistance felt, The proofing agents are
Copper naphthenate or Cuprammonium emulsion followed by
Dinitro-alphanaphthol (DNAN) or Dinitro-ortho-cresol (DNOC)
Wool percentage of General Purpose felt Medium should be 95 % or more.
Proofing of IS 1719 felt with the use of DNAN and para-nitrophenol
imparts yellow colour to the felt.
The IS 1719 proofed wool felt which is proofed with cuprammonium
emulsion or copper naphthenate must not be used in contact with
explosives containing ammonium nitrate unless the proofed felt is
thoroughly waxed. We manufacture Paraffin wax impregnated felt.
Pressed Wool Felts are governed in India under IS: 1719 specification .
Our General purpose Wool felt Firm is very Durable compared to the
Medium firm felt.
